  • RX (Receive) Data: Parsed from WSJT-X ALL.TXT log file, which records all decoded FT8 signals with timestamps, frequencies, and signal-to-noise ratios (SNR in dB).
  • TX (Transmit) Data: Retrieved from PSKReporter.info API, which aggregates reception reports from stations worldwide that heard your transmissions.
  • Solar Data: Solar Flux Index (SFI), K-index, and A-index from hamqsl.com at session start.

RX Analysis

  • Common Stations: Only stations heard by ALL antennas in a band are compared (apples-to-apples). This eliminates bias from propagation changes.
  • Average SNR: Mean signal-to-noise ratio across all common stations. Higher is better.
  • Baseline: First antenna in the comparison. Other antennas show delta (difference) from baseline.
  • Winner: Antenna with higher average SNR. Differences <1 dB are considered ties (within measurement uncertainty).

TX Analysis

  • Reach: Number of unique stations that received your signal during each antenna interval.
  • Average Report: Mean SNR of reception reports from PSKReporter.
  • Common Receivers: Where possible, only receivers that heard both antennas are compared. When few common receivers exist, reach count is used instead.
  • PSKReporter Limitation: Data is only available for the last 24 hours and depends on receiving stations uploading to PSKReporter.

Distance Analysis

  • Average Distance: Mean great-circle distance to stations heard (RX) or that heard you (TX). Higher average = better DX performance.
  • Max Distance: Farthest station reached. Indicates antenna's long-haul capability.
  • Calculation: Haversine formula using station grid squares. Only stations with known grids are included.
  • Units: Distances shown in kilometers (km). 1 km ≈ 0.62 miles.

Direction Analysis

  • Bearing Calculation: Great-circle bearing from your grid square to each station's grid.
  • Direction Bins: 8 compass directions (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW) in 45° sectors.
  • Per-Direction Winner: Antenna with better average SNR for stations in that direction. Helps identify directional patterns in antenna performance.

Recommendations

  • Win Counting: Each band and direction comparison contributes RX and TX "wins" to each antenna.
  • Overall Winner: Antenna with more combined wins across all bands.
  • Caveats: Results depend on propagation conditions during the test. For robust conclusions, repeat tests across multiple days and conditions.
